Mary Anne Terry
A data-driven storyteller, Mary Anne Terry has spent the last decade connecting her marketing and communications skills with her passions in the travel, hospitality and non-profit sectors. Also a lifelong learner, Mary Anne graduated top of her class from Search Engine Marketing and Google Analytics at University of Toronto; Graphic Design for Print and Web at Humber College; and Professional Writing and Institutional Communications from York University.
Philanthropically, with a keen interest in foreign cultures and a desire to help those less fortunate, Mary Anne began her volunteer experience with Amarok Society, a charity that empowers women in Bangladesh through education. In 2010, she spent time in the slums, getting to know the families and their struggles, and documenting their stories to be shared with advocates in Canada; and today, continues to assist with their communications efforts.
Professionally, Mary Anne began her career as a Project Manager, writing business plans for small-to-medium sized companies. In this role, she was recognized for being the most efficient PM, as well as the one with the greatest client feedback, and was quickly promoted to manage a team of writers. Hungry for more international experience, Mary Anne then moved to Australia, where she worked as a Web Content Producer for an online tourism company, Experience Oz. There, she successfully grew highly engaged communities on social media, increased organic web traffic and increased sales through dynamic content strategies.
Returning to Canada in 2013, Mary Anne joined the marketing team at Oliver & Bonacini, one of Canada’s top hospitality companies. As the Manager of Corporate Communications, she managed the contributor team; led all digital, PR and content marketing strategies; and developed all corporate materials, including the O&B Culture Book, which is still used across the country today. Mary Anne was recognized for bringing both innovation and results to O&B; as an example, by introducing new technologies and digital strategies, in just one quarter, Mary Anne increased gift card sales, a large revenue source for O&B, by over 50% YoY and substantially grew the database of email subscribers and social followers–and she was able to recreate this success, increasing sales by another 50% the following season.
In 2017, determined to make a meaningful impact on the local community, Mary Anne joined the Jake’s House family as the Director of Marketing and Communications. After supporting the launch of Legends Mentoring Program, the Holiday Party expansion and Jake’s House Employment Mentoring, Mary Anne was promoted to Director of Communications & Strategic Partnerships. A digitally inclined word nerd who has explored 40 countries to date, Mary Anne has now found her home at Jake’s House.
